2 Minutes Of Fact-Checkable Climate Change Facts For Skeptics
Hey there friends, obviously being brief is not my strong suit (I just made a 2-minute video 5 minutes long) but I would say the central theme boils down to this:
The people who’ve studied this issue the most (including those who reeeeeaaaallllly wish climate change was fake) agree that climate change is happening, it’s man-made, and it’s not a good thing.
Most climate skeptics have a bone to pick with one of those three pieces of the pie, but that’s not the point of this video. I will make one hundred billion more videos about exactly why those three pieces are in fact very much backed up by science and experiments and all that shit, but this video is just about reporting what three specific groups thing about climate change.
1. Fossil Fuel companies
Ironically, this one is the absolute easiest to prove. There are a ton of fossil fuel companies, but honestly not that many. Pick one in your head right now. Was it … Exxon? If you were thinking about Exxon, pretty impressive, right? Well, anyway, the major fossil fuel companies actually play this pretty slick little game where the more complex/less-publicized papers they write, the more they explicitly confirm scientific consensus on climate change. But when it comes time to write editorials in major newspapers or give statements, they’re hilariously vague to the point of forwarding a narrative of there being a climate debate. It’s a great plan, it’s just one that totally fucks the planet for a cash prize for some executives. If you want to read more, check out the whole #ExxonKnew thing by Dr. Geoffrey Supran and Dr. Naomi Oreskes. It’s great. Also, listen to Drilled by Amy Westervelt.
But to put this one to bed, do what the video says. Just type in Climate change and the name of your favorite oil company and just read what they have to say. Keep in mind, they would fucking LOVE to be able to deny climate change, they just sorta can’t anymore because it’s frowned upon to lie to a federal judge (though you’d never know it).
Okay seriously, just have a bit of a google and see what you can see on their official corporate websites.
2. Economists and Insurance Companies
These people are serious people. They have serious jobs and when they eat a piece of cake, they do it as seriously as levity of a funeral march. They don’t fuck around is what I’m trying to say. Here are some links for you to peruse about what economists and insurance companies think about climate change.

And if you like to watch videos instead, you dirty dog, here you go
3. Scientific consensus
For some weird reason, people love to dispute the 97% claim because they go back to the original Doran et al. paper from 2009 and try to poke holes in it, but they never seem to get around to reading ANY OF THE OTHER PAPERS that conclude emphatically that depending on how exactly you’re measuring the expert consensus, the number is between 93% and a solid gold 100% of climate scientists agreeing.
And here’s one from Skeptical Science
Let’s put it another way. Imagine for a moment you went to the cancer doctor because you had a lump on your neck and your cancer doctor said it’s cancer. You get a second opinion, and that doctor says you have cancer. You talk to still a third doctor and she says you’ve got cancer. Do you A) begin cancer treatment, or B) talk to 30 more doctors until you find a pediatrician who is willing to diagnose your lump as “neck juice”?
I think I butchered a metaphor from Dr. Joseph Romm, but he’s got a point. It’s possible that they’re all wrong, but they do overwhelmingly agree about climate change.
Honestly I’ve got my fingers crossed for them all being wrong because that would mean life on earth would get to carry on as normal, but that seems like a pretty long shot to put all of humanity’s metaphorical money on. If you feel like I totally beefed something in here, please leave a comment in the YouTube comment section.
All the love in the world,
Rollie Williams
P.S. Thanks so so so much for watching that video. Even if you disagree with the whole thing, it’s nice of you to have taken to time.
